About this project

Born and raised in Beijing, China, Ms. Liu started her clarinet studies at the age of 12 with Ming Liu, the principal clarinet of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, Ms. Liu was accepted to The Tianjin Juilliard School Pre-College Division, where she studied with Xiangyu Zhou and became the first student to graduate from the school. Ms. Liu holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Juilliard and is continuing her Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Charles Neidich.

During her current years at Juilliard, Ms. Liu has played all positions in the Juilliard Orchestra, Opera, and Wind Orchestra. Recent performance highlights include principal clarinet and basset horn on Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito with Juilliard Opera production. Ms. Liu has performed and studied at the Sarasota Music Festival, the fellowship program at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Miami Music Festival with an orchestral fellowship position.

An advocate of contemporary music, Ms. Liu regularly performs in AXIOM, Juilliard’s contemporary ensemble. Performance highlights include the principal clarinet on Thomas Adès’ The Origin of the Harp and Unsuk Chin’s Akrostichon-Wortspiel. Recently, Ms. Liu performed Jörg Widmann’s Fantasie for clarinet solo in Jörg Widmann’s masterclass.
