About this project

David de Freitas Dias is currently finishing his degree with Professor Nuno Silva at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra. He holds a reserve position in the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras and is a member of the Orquestra Académica Filarmónica Portuguesa.
He was born in Porto on March 18, 2004. He began his musical studies at the Porto Conservatory of Music at the age of six, in the class of Professor Iva Barbosa. A year later, he moved to Rui Lopes’ class and, later, to Ricardo Alves’, with whom he finished secondary school with distinction.

Since 2016, David has been a full member of ARMAB. In 2021, he founded the Trio Papilio with Matilde Bernardo (flute) and Francisco Pais (piano), and has given concerts at the Porto Conservatory of Music, the Rivoli Theatre and the Casa da Música.

David took part in masterclasses with musicians such as Josep Colom, Juan Ferrer, Martin Fröst, José Eduardo Gomes, João Moreira, Victor Pereira and António Saiote.

He was distinguished in several competitions, including the Luso-Spanish Fafe Competition, the National Young Clarinetists Competition and the Internal Competition of the Porto Conservatory of Music, which gave him the opportunity to perform solo with the Orquestra do Norte in 2023.

David has also performed with major orchestras such as the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, and took part in the Remix Ensemble Summer Academy.
